School - EP

Year: 2013
Genre: Punk/Crust/D-Beat

1.Easy
2.Garbage
3.Give In
4.Being
5.Pushover
6.School

Submission from Buffalo, NY. This band plays harsh Punk that can be compared to Hoax or Cülo. I've been extremely impressed with what I've been seeing from Buffalo over the past few years with bands like Brainwreck and Water Torture. Keeping with the recent theme of Buffalo, School plays visceral music that is slam-able.

Crosscheck - Over Analyzed

Year: 2013
Genre: Hardcore

1. Held Back
2. Live Through Lies (ft. Bob Wilson)
3. Overlooked
4. Confined
5. Over Analyzed

A submission from Philadelphia, Crosscheck plays a pounding brand of hardcore. The band is getting signed to Dog Years Recs, which means they're going to be label-mates with Springfield's own Free At Last. Give this a download if you're a fan of Harness, Wrong Answer, Ruckus, etc.

2.NPJ (2:06)
3.Tan Lines (1:15)
4.Loudmouth (1:20)
5.Mind Beach (1:30)

A gnarly submission from North Carolina. Riptide plays hardcore in the shadow of early 2000's Lockin' Out bands, like Mental or Righteous Jams. However, the band also sprinkles in Surf Rock influences on the track  "Tan Lines" and in their lyrics.

Phantom Lord-Insanity EP

Year: 2013
Genre: Hardcore/Crossover

1.Raw Dog (Instrumental) (3:36)
2. The New Me (2:47)
3. Seeing Is Believing (2:45)
4. Killing Time (3:06)
5. Putrid Disgrace (4:11)

As the name would suggest, this band retains heavy influences from 80's speed and thrash metal, while also incorporating contemporary hardcore into a crossover blend. This is the first demo from the Bremerton, WA band and it is punishing in it's approach. You should listen if you are a fan of Power Trip, Onslaught, Media Blitz, etc.

Messes - The Sounds Your Basement Made

Genre: Screamo/Emo
Year: 2013

Tracklist:
1. Slumber Party
2. All of These Teeth
3. There's No Good Sharks?
4. Last Day of Summer Camp

Messes are a Screamo band from Somerset Kentucky. Last year these dudes released a EP called " This Is What We Wake Up To." and in my book it was a fantastic, and well done EP with heartfelt moments in each song that you could relate to and take comfort in and have some sort of catharsis. On this new EP they do more towards that notion even more and holy shit, this thing has turned out just so great and i'm proud of these dudes for what they did on this new EP. The lyrics are even more captivating and just strong and draw you in and give you some sort of emotion unless you're just a dead body. The overall musicianship is better. and much more technical, and has a very depressing dreary sound to it that i'm enjoying. The last song repeats the line "I Hope You Don't Quit On Me" and just really shows the whole picture of what this EP is really about. This is my first post back in a while so I thought i'd make it a big one, please listen to this and support these guys. One of the best things i've heard all year -Jacob Rice

Sorry I haven't updated in a while, i've had a pretty shitty situation come up in my life where i'm being pretty much forced to pack all my shit and get out of this house. I might be able to post like one thing later or something, if not i'll post as soon as I can. Thanks for sticking through with this inconvenience.

True Love - A Floral Note

Genre: Hardcore
Year: 2013

Tracklist:
1. Intro/TLC
2. Midnight People
3. Out In The Streets Pt. 1
4. American Tears
5. Chained Melody

Hardcore band featuring members from Face Reality, Damages, and Freedom. This album is short and sweet, with just non-stop energy and furious pace. What I like most about this band is the lyrics, they are something you would hear from an emo band. The lyrics are a very cathartic release for the singer it seems, his vocal projection is very emotional and something very new for this genre that people should embrace. Great release, I see myself listening to this one a bunch -Jacob Rice

Surrender - Golden Noose

Genre: Hardcore
Year: 2013

Tracklist:
1. Golden Noose (Featuring Kyle Roller)
2. I'm Not Sorry
3. Advocate (Featuring Hal Crossno of Blackhole)
4. Watch You Decay
5. Bothered
6. Tomb (Featuring Joe Strong)
7. Failure

Surrender are a Hardcore band from my local scene in Springfield Missouri, without a doubt my favorite hardcore band in Springfield. One of the members of this band actually helps run the site with me (Tanner). This is Surrender's new release, and man is it fantastic! Surrender plays a very dark and brooding style of hardcore, very heavy, very noisy, and sometimes even ramp up to some powerviolence speeds. Christians shrill vocals are accompanied very well by Tanners ominous and powerful riffs, as well as Zachs breakneck drum speed to his pounding break parts, and of course backed by Tylers very fat and heavy basslines. Basically this album is extremely solid, my words can't do it much justice. I advise just listening to this one and if you can support these dudes. Also, prepare to get your skull smashed by the track Advocate.

Lay It On The Line / Arizona Split

Genre: Hardcore/Screamo
Year: 2013

Tracklist:
Lay It On The Line;
1. Therapia Lane
2. ...And Now I Own His Washing Machine

Arizona;
3. I Knew A Girl At School Called Pandora, Never Got To See Her Box Though
4. I'm Not A Superhero, I'm A Latter Day Saint

Split from Lay It On The Line(UK) and Arizona(Belgium). Lay It On The Line are a hardcore band from London who play a very emotional style of hardcore, very close to screamo. They write some real shit for their lyrics, especially this time, their side of the split is about their friend Ben Gardner who had been murdered in his home. Arizona brings a more pop punk/hardcore side to this split. Pretty good songwriting as well! -Jacob Rice

The Measure Of - Is Nothing Sacred

Genre: Post-Rock/Shoegaze/Black Metal/Screamo
Year: 2013

Check out The Measure Of's new song Is Nothing Sacred. The Measure Of are from Austin TX and play a very layered and experimental style of music. With very haunting, melodic, and mellow riffs there is a very pretty side to this music, but at the same time there is a very harsh, heavy, and mean side to this music with the beating drums and shrill heavy vocals. Which is a very nice combination, ending up into this perfectly written song. -Jacob Rice
