Driftwood Records

Driftwood Records is a DIY label ran out a house in Eugene Oregon. Now the logistics of a Label in the DIY music scene is a topic for a lot of debate, but thats not what i am here to talk about. Driftwood has been a large contributor to the DIY music scene doing numerous cassette tape/vinyl/ cd releases for many bands that larger labels would never take a chance on, releases include bands like Human Kitten, Flowers Taped To Pens, Wet Petals, Kill the intellectuals, Things Fall Apart, Cabin Fire, Park Jefferson, secret stuff and many many more . Thou many rumors have spread about Driftwood and individual (who is a sweetie) who runs it, You cannot deny that Driftwood has indeed helped many bands and made physical releases a more obtainable idea without pouring tons of money into buying equipment. Whether its truly DIY or not, I believe Driftwood Records is a huge ally to the DIY music scene and should definitely be supported.

Blackhole - Deeper

Genre: Hardcore
Year: 2014

Tracklist:
1. Intro/Deeper
2. Not Cool Enough
3. Keep Spitting
4. Art Extortion
5. Lost Sight, Start A Fight

Blackhole are a band from around Springfield MO, and these guys have been posted here a few times, like last year we posted their release before this Ledges, be sure to check that out as well. This time around they've made their sound even more heavy, fast, and angry. Another highlight of this is the lyrics, sending out messages like in Art Extortion, where its about people who are just making music for money and how they are fake. Overall this release is sounding great, I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Lion House - Drancy

Genre: Emo/Screamo/Post-Hardcore
Year: 2014

Tracklist:
1. Support The Army; Not The Assholes
2. Come Back With All Of Your Faculties
3. Dooty Pooty
4. "I'm All Out Of HP"
5. Please Return My Daniel Johnston Record
6. AGAPE? Fuck That, PHILOS.

Lionhouse are a band from Kansas City, MO. Playing a twinkly sounding style of emo combined with the brash melodies and speed of screamo, Lionhouse pulls off a very admirable and solid release. This album is chock full of sad lyrics and pretty riffs. It reminds me of older bands like Mineral and The Casket Lottery, but combines it with sounds of newer emo bands like The Reptilian or even PBTT. Impressive release, definitely check this one out as well.

Companion - Walk Away

Genre: Hardcore/Post Hardcore
Year: 2013

Tracklist:
1. Strangers
2. Judges
3. Sleepless
4. Walk Away
5. Question Master

Hey guys I am back and today I have decided to post Companion, which is a local band from my area Springfield Missouri. This is Companion's first release and I am enjoying it quite a bit! Companion play a emotion filled style of hardcore and all the essentials are there; melodic riffs, energetic drums, and anger filled vocals. That isn't what stands out to me most though, it has to definitely be the lyrics, they are very sincere and something that I could easily relate to and get into. The energy that the band exerts on this EP is something you would have to see live to get the full feel. Overall, I think these guys did a great job and am excited to see what these guys bring to the table into the near future.
PS. Hopefully this internet stays up and I can continue posting for you guys.

Have It All - Changes

genre: Post-Hardcore
year: 2013

Tracklist:
1. Untitled
2. Circles
3. Side By Side
4. Tonight
5. Changes

Have It All is a post-hardcore band from Italy. Their newest EP "Changes" combines fimiliar hardcore elements with semi-melodic atmosphere and guitar, the vocals are more on the side of scream-y then the yell-y of Hardcore (if that makes sense). The album hits most of the notes wanted in a hardcore album with faster sections as well as slowed dow, althou i was not a fan of the "breakdown" sections in certain but to each his own. I give this band respect for their DIY recording. In the end "Changes" is a solid release, it doesn't re-invent the genre or anything, but a good release for fans of the sound.

Amber - Lovesaken

Genre: Screamo/Hardcore/Post Rock/Black Metal
Year: 2013

Tracklist:
1. Kings Like Us
2. Lost
3. Silent Lies
4. Fading Away
5. Lovesaken

Amber are a post-hardcore band from Marburg Germany. They play a very epic, beautiful, and just a very somber style of music. Mixing everything from screamo that sounds like Circle Takes The Square to a very shrill and melodic Black Metal sound. Not to mention this thing is literally just chock full of dirty and badass sludge/post rock riffs. The vocals sound very full, and just hopeless which adds an ever darker feeling to this dark album. -Jacob Rice

Year: 2013

Tracklist:

2. But I Had the Best Intentions
3. 9494 E. Becker
4. Imperfect

Band from Tempe Arizona. These dudes play a very energetic style of Emo and Hardcore. Very easy to like these songs, they are so melodic and just beautiful. Stack that on with the aggressive/clean vocals that the singer is doing. Yeah, you're going to like this one. -Jacob Rice

Ex-Breathers - Collision

Genre: Hardcore/Punk/Post Hardcore
Year: 2012

Tracklist:
1. Bruise
2. No Belief
3. Passive Forms
4. Louder
5. Screenhead
6. Sink to Breathe
7. Bliss
8. 81
9. Collision
10. Second Voice
11. Time-Lapse

Punk band from Tallahassee. These guys play a combination of a lot of things. Oddly enough as others have compared them to Nomeansno, Fugazi, and Botch. I agree with those comparisons, this band brings something new to the table and something worth listening to. This stuff is rad.

Flawless - Winter Tour Tape

Genre: Emo/Pop Punk/Post Hardcore
Year: 2012

Tracklist:
1. Eagleton
2. Take My Pride

These guys are probably the best local band from Springfield Missouri honestly. Extremely well written and thought out music. These two new songs trump over Something I'll Never Miss without even trying. So much more emotion, and you can feel how much they put into writing these songs. For Fans of Title Fight, Basement, and Merit. Its kind of hard to compare these guys to a lot of bands. They don't really sound identical to any of those.  But don't sleep on this, also these guys are going on tour soon. Catch them in your town soon, here is the tour listing. Please check this out. -Jacob Rice

Gatherer - Postcards

Genre: Post Hardcore/Hardcore/Screamo
Year: 2012

Tracklist:
1. Wedding Bells
2. Postcards
3. Jones Beach
4. Brittle Bones

As I was curiously searching over Bandcamp I found this fantastic band. These guys play a very emotional filled style of hardcore, very brimming to be Screamo. With heart filled personal lyrics this stuff is very well written and you can relate to this. Lots of fantastic instrument work on here too, as I said before very screamo like. Definitely check this one out, well worth your time -Jacob Rice

Ted's Approval - Red Dream

Genre: Hardcore/Post Hardcore/Screamo
Year: 2012

Tracklist:
1. Burn and Rage
2. Samantha
3. Golden Gate
4. Barry Bonds
5. Children in Churches
6. Enredadera

Band from Santa Cruz, CA. These guys play a very emotive style of hardcore even getting very close to being screamo. With dark and emotional lyrics is what really made this band what they are to me. They are so deep and you can tell how much meaning was put into the words. The music itself is as well very emotional filled. Very skramzy riffs with emotion filled vocals. I love this release. You should to.

Like Wolves - s/t LP

Facebook Bandcamp
Genre: Hardcore/Post-Hardcore/Punk
Year: 2011

Tracklist:
1. Golden Year
2. Missionary
3. Her As Earth
4. You Will Know Darkness
5. Obsolete Vernacular

Get It!

So, remember before, when i posted the How We Are EP, and said how they were one of my favorite bands from Rochester, NY? Well this is my absolute favorite band from there. Being from the area, i was able to see this band many, many times, in multiple venues in Rochester, with so many bands of all genres.
They played their final show abruptly on May 24th of this year, and i was lucky enough to be there for it. If you like bands like Drive Like Jehu, "In Utero" era Nirvana, and even Black Cross, you're bound to dig this. Powerful lyrics, written by one of the nicest guys Ive ever met, with music thats just as strong.

Gypsy - Giant's Despair

Genre: Emo/Indie/Punk/Post Hardcore/I have no fucking clue (Listen for yourself and decide)
Year: 2012

Tracklist:
1. Sleep Well
2. Cherry Picker
3. Dear Sister
4. I Know Who You Are
5. Selfish Blues
6. (Non) Fiction
7. Unconditionally Dependent
8. Count Your Blessings
9. Stuck
10. All Along

So this is a really interesting band. They share members with Cold World, Bad Seed, Blacklisted, and Let Down. I think they sound a lot like a super modern Jawbreaker, but I don't think there's anything wrong with that. This album has made it's way into my regular rotation recently, it's a great listen. -Tanner Caruthers
