The Measure Of - Is Nothing Sacred

Genre: Post-Rock/Shoegaze/Black Metal/Screamo
Year: 2013

Check out The Measure Of's new song Is Nothing Sacred. The Measure Of are from Austin TX and play a very layered and experimental style of music. With very haunting, melodic, and mellow riffs there is a very pretty side to this music, but at the same time there is a very harsh, heavy, and mean side to this music with the beating drums and shrill heavy vocals. Which is a very nice combination, ending up into this perfectly written song. -Jacob Rice

Amber - Lovesaken

Genre: Screamo/Hardcore/Post Rock/Black Metal
Year: 2013

Tracklist:
1. Kings Like Us
2. Lost
3. Silent Lies
4. Fading Away
5. Lovesaken

Amber are a post-hardcore band from Marburg Germany. They play a very epic, beautiful, and just a very somber style of music. Mixing everything from screamo that sounds like Circle Takes The Square to a very shrill and melodic Black Metal sound. Not to mention this thing is literally just chock full of dirty and badass sludge/post rock riffs. The vocals sound very full, and just hopeless which adds an ever darker feeling to this dark album. -Jacob Rice

Downpour/Thetan - Split

Genre: Crust/Powerviolence/Sludge/Black Metal
Year: 2013

Tracklist:
Downpour:
1. Coming of Wage

4. The Elegy
5. Expression
6. You're In Your Prime, Kid
7. I Want The Whole Truth

Thetan:
8. To Please The Gods

Two awesome bands, two different styles. Downpour bringing a very fast and abrasive style of Powerviolence and Crust to this split busts out 7 tracks around like 10 minutes. While Thetan brings a very sludgy black metal sound to this split with one song that is 8 minutes long! Both bands rule at what they do, please check this one out, they deserve your attention! -Jacob Rice

Ramlord/Condensed Flesh-Split

Genre: Blackened Crust
Year: 2011

Ramlord:

1.Restrained (2:14)
2. Retrained (0:52)
3. Reality (2:16)
4. Relapse (1:51)

Condensed Flesh:

1. Side B (18:04)

FFO: Young and in the Way, Amebix, MDC
Ramlord is an East Coast crust band that has been gathering momentum over the past few years. The band incorporates Black Metal-like instrumental strands throughout the music, as well as influences from hardcore and powerviolence bands.

Condensed Flesh is self-described as "punx playing metal." CF uses more traditional punk influences (think Millions of Dead Cops) in their approach.

2. Chained
3. There Was Nothing
4. False Options
5. Prisoner of the White Lord
6. Hated
7. Pleasure & Pain

As you guys know, Low Places broke up recently. One of the members Vince has a side project called Child Brides, which he had emailed me about recently. This is a release he put out and made entirely by himself. Recently he met some people and is going to turn this project into a full band thing. If you like some noisy, heavy, industrial, and some pretty evil sounding music. Give this a chance, but go into it with an open mind because it is very different. -Jacob Rice

Low Places - Black Tape

Bandcamp
Genre: Hardcore/Black Metal/Sludge
Year: 2013

Tracklist:
1. Side A

Last release from this awesome band out of CA. These dudes always have put out a very solid effort on their releases. Spiritual Treatment and their S/T were on replay for me for a very long time. This release is very noisy and gritty. Sad to see these dudes are ending it, but they end it on a killer release. This thing is dark as fuck. I can't really compare it to anything and don't need to. You guys know who these dudes are, get this shit now. This is being release on a very limited amount of tapes soon. -Jacob Rice

Opium Lord-The Calendrical Cycle Prologue: The Healer

Year: 2013
Genre: Sludge/Doom/Black Metal
1. Heroin Swirls
2. Street Labs

A submission from the Birmingham, UK band Opium Lord. This band has only been around for a little over a month and they've already had radio airplay on BBC, and for good reason. Opium Lord is a blistering cocktail of the instrumental droning of Doom, the raspy vocals of Black Metal, and the chugging pace of Sludge. Keep a look out for their EP release this Spring.

Definitely check this one out. -Jacob Rice

2. Sink and Drown

Great Hardcore/Sludge influenced band from Syracuse, NY. These guys definitely blend all three of these genres very well to the point where someone from the hardcore genre or sludge genre could definitely get into this as much as just something straight hardcore or sludge. Decimating slow crushing riffs to Melodic haunting riffs. This stuff rules -Jacob Rice

This release is just so symphonic, beautiful, and dark as fuck. If you want to get into black metal give this one a try. Its really hard not to enjoy. Also it doesn't have awful recording quality like a lot of Black Metal, some requested this too so here you go man! Thanks! -Jacob Rice
