Carissa's Wierd - Songs About Leaving

Genre: Indie/Shoegaze?/Slowcore?
Year: 2002

Tracklist:
1. You Should Be Hated Here
2. Silently Leaving The Room
3. So You Wanna Be A Superhero
4. September Come Take This Heart Away
5. Ignorant Piece Of Shit
6. The Piano Song

10. Sofisticated Fuck Princess Please Leave Me Alone

12. (March 19th, 1983) It Was Probably Green

This is probably the saddest release ever. Some of the songs, in example So You Wanna Be A Superhero literally are the sound of depression. These guys are so under rated in my opinion its sad. Two of the guys from this band went on to form Band Of Horses which is also a really good band in my opinion but is a completely different sound from this. I don't even know what genre to put this in so thats why I put the question marks, either way don't sleep on this one and get it now -Jacob Rice

"Stroudsburg's bastard sons."  Melodic hardcore from Pennsylvania. This is their new EP, soon the be released on 7". One of my favorite releases by a smaller band from this year!  For fans of American Nightmare, Killing The Dream, and Runier. Keep and eye on this band, they already have a demo out before this EP, and they are bound to get big. They are definitely one of the bands on my list of bands i want to see before the year is over. Will it happen? probably not. But i can be hopeful.

Melodic hardcore band all the way from Germany! These guys sent me their music and its a little bit darker sounding than most melodic hardcore that I usually hear. Some of the riffs on this are actually getting pretty skramzy at times and even his vocals are pretty skramzy at parts. I dig this one pretty hard. Check it out!

This is an awesome crossover band from Detroit. I've been listening to these dudes since they released Destroy Everything Worship Nothing back in 2009. These guys play some high energy and anger filled thrashy hardcore. The lyrics are on the political side, as well as on the against religion sometimes. Sometimes they skew off to random subjects such as violence etc. Either way, these guys are really solid and brought something new to the table and will hopefully continue to once they release a new full length. -Jacob Rice

There is much more than just that to this album though. I highly advise getting this one -Jacob Rice

Masochrist - Two Thousand Years Of Pain EP

Bandcamp
Genre: Powerviolence
Year: 2011

Tracklist:

1. Intro/Two Thousand Years Of Pain
2. Demise Of Man
3. Wagemaster
4. God Of Wealth
5. Human Scum
6. America
7. Passion Of The Christ/ Control

Get It!

Female fronted powerviolence from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I picked this 7" up after i had the chance to meet Emily, who did vocals for the band, about a year ago. She was working at a record/cd store in Pittsburgh that i happened to stop into with a friend of mine. We talked about what bands that we both were into and what was cool to do in Pittsburgh. She told me that she use to be in a PV band called Masochrist, so i ended up looking them up, enjoying it, and buying the EP from Give Praise about 2 weeks later. Emily is cool, so was her band. They broke up, but you can still find the 7" from different distros and shit. Id say go for it. Very scrappy recordings, but so raw, and sooo pissed.

Being from the area, i was able to see this band many, many times, in multiple venues in Rochester, with so many bands of all genres.
They played their final show abruptly on May 24th of this year, and i was lucky enough to be there for it. If you like bands like Drive Like Jehu, "In Utero" era Nirvana, and even Black Cross, you're bound to dig this. Powerful lyrics, written by one of the nicest guys Ive ever met, with music thats just as strong.
